TAWB is a not-for-profit association representing the local workforce development boards in Texas and more than 750 of the business, education and community leaders who serve on those boards. Our goal is to ensure a highly skilled, well-trained talent supply for Texas employers and an employer-driven workforce system. We seek to achieve this goal by providing information and facilitating communication among the Texas business community, educational providers and state and federal officials.
Dear Friends and Fellow Employers,
I am proud to lead the Texas Association of Workforce Boards (TAWB), an association of the 28 Texas local workforce development boards. Thanks to the efforts of the leadership preceding me, TAWB is and will remain dedicated to meeting the workforce development needs of Texas employers.
In the past few years, the Texas economy has substantially outperformed those of other states in jobs creation. As demonstrated by the recent recession, the Texas economy is more resilient, suffered less and recovered faster than those of other states. A recent report by the Texas Comptroller indicates that as of the summer of 2011, Texas has regained 82% of the jobs shed by employers during Texas' recession. Read more
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Esperanza "Hope" Andrade of San Antonio to the Texas Workforce Commission as Commissioner Representing Employers. She replaces Commissioner Tom Pauken who resigned. Read the news release from the Governor’s Office here.
Each month TAWB features one or more of its member boards and their local workforce development efforts in economic growth to meet the needs of Texas employers. The featured boards for May are South Texas andSoutheast Texas.
TAWB provides regular updates of legislative actions in Congress and the Texas Legislature, including Texas Legislative committee assignments.
